about
This song was written after my father had to go into care, as his Alzheimer's had become too severe for mum to care for him safely any more. At his care home there was a poem written by Owen Darnell that my mum loved and asked me to print out.
Whilst doing this I was moved by the words and thought it might be a nice present to my mum if I were to put the poem to music and present it to her along with the framed poem.
So this song is very personal - specifically aimed at an audience of one but maybe others who have had watch their loved ones being taken away by this horrible illness will find some comfort in the words.
Thanks to Chris Upfield at Square Spiral for the final mix.
lyrics
Do not ask me to remember
Don’t try to make me understand
Let me rest and know you’re with me
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand
I’m confused beyond your concept
I am sick and sad and lost
All I know is that I need you
To be with me at all cost
Do not lose your patience with me
Do not scold or curse or cry
I can’t help the way I’m acting
Can’t be different though I try
Just remember that I need you
That the best of me is gone
Please Don’t fail to stand beside me
Love me ‘til my life is done
